How to elevate the bed frame

Adjust the height of your bed frame for most comforts.

Bed height matters, but it can be the element overlooked easily because lots of people care most about choices like: "a twin size or a king size?", "which mattress to buy?", "what design of bed frame to choose", and so forth. But in fact, the bed height can affect many aspects of your sleeping space.

Bed height affects how a bedroom appears. A bed with a lower height gives the appearance of more space so it may be more suitable for bedrooms with contemporary and minimalist decors. On the other hand, a bed with a higher height makes a more compact space, which looks more harmonious in bedrooms in modern luxury style.

Bed height also affects the body health of sleepers. For example, for an aging adult, beds that are too low will force them to strain their muscles when attempting to get in or get out of the bed.

So now, you may be wondering, how to change the height of your bed frame for the most comfort. When it comes to lowering down, the way is to either replace a lower one or switch to an adjustable bed frame. Instead, elevating is much easier. Here are three ways.

Attach bed risers

Bed risers are small cube-shaped boxes or rods that attach to the legs of your bed to add height. Attaching bed risers might be the most economic-friendly way to elevate your bed. They help to lift your bed 2 to 3 inches higher, with an average price of approximately 18$ for online buying.

Well-made bed risers should be safe as long as they are used properly. Most bed risers can support 1,000 to 2,000 pounds. High-density bed risers can hold upwards of 10,000 pounds.

There are three types of bed risers in terms of material: plastic, wood and metal. The plastic ones tend to be the cheapest but less durable probably, therefore better for short term accommodations. The wood ones are relatively more aesthetically looking, though they may have the most wear and tear. Lastly, bed risers made up of metal are the most durable and capable of holding most weights.

Be aware not to hurt yourself while installing them. In consideration of safety, it's best to operate on the even ground surfaces by two persons, with one person lifting the legs of the bed, and the other one installing it.

Use mattress toppers or mattress foundation

No matter the mattress topper or the mattress foundation, both of them aim to elevate the beds by adding the height of the mattress. And the installation is relatively easier.

A mattress topper is generally 2-4 inches in height. What it improves is much more than height. It prevents the mattress from getting dirty and gives a cozier feeling than the mattress. Some mattress toppers can even regulate bed temperature.

On the other hand, a mattress foundation generally ranges between 4 to 18 inches in height. It adds not only the height of the bed but also the stability by helping absorb the shock.

Add wheels

Adding wheels can not only make a bed frame higher but also moveable. If you have a baby needed to be taken care of, adding wheels must be a solution helping you save energy and trouble.

And it's not that tricky as long as you choose the proper caster wheels.
